Germany: Climate activists plan to protest in Kassel, Oct. 12

Climate activists plan to protest Kassel-Calden Airport, Germany, Oct. 12; increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Environmental groups led by Last Generation (LG) plan to protest at Kassel-Calden Airport (KSF) from 12:00 Oct. 12. Campaigners will denounce government investments in the airport, which is largely used for private flights. It is likely that low hundreds will take part in the event, based on the multiple protests at KSF in recent weeks.

Authorities will likely deploy additional security near the protest site. Disruptions to road traffic and transport are likely near KSF Airport, and increased security may impact airfield operations. The events are likely to pass off peacefully, although scuffles between activists and police can't be ruled out. Further protests are likely in the coming days.

Avoid the protest as a routine security precaution. Follow local traffic and security advice. Allow extra time for travel across the impacted areas and seek alternative routes as necessary. In the event of violent clashes, leave the area immediately.

Climate groups have demonstrated at KSF Airport and in central Kassel multiple times in recent weeks. On Sept. 21, a small group of activists sprayed paint on KSF buildings and glued themselves to the pavement near the entrance. On Oct. 9, protestors entered the airfield and symbolically planted a tree in the middle of a runway.
