Germany: Lingering service disruptions likely at Hamburg Central Railway Station into late Oct. 2 after response to potential health emergency
Lingering disruptions likely at Hamburg Central Railway Station, Germany. into late Oct. 2 after response to potential health emergency.
Lingering rail transport disruptions are likely at Hamburg's Central Railway Station through at least Oct. 2 after emergency personnel responded to a potential infectious disease exposure situation at the facility earlier in the day. The operation occurred after authorities identified two passengers aboard an InterCity Express (ICE) train from Frankfurt, who had recently returned from Rwanda and were believed to have been infected with the Marburg virus. Authorities cordoned off the affected train, evacuated its passengers, and removed the individuals in question for further medical evaluation. Tracks 7 and 8 were closed at the station for the duration of the response, but were reopened and the cordons lifted as of the early evening.
Disruptions will probably continue for several hours as rail service providers reposition rolling stock and work through their passenger backlogs.
Reconfirm rail bookings if planning to travel via Hamburg Main Railway Station through at least the early hours of Oct. 3. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Persons who had been traveling on the ICE train in question should strictly heed the instructions of health authorities.
