Germany: Unionized Lufthansa airport staff to hold a 24-hour strike at Dresden Airport and Leipzig Halle Airport, Oct. 2.

Unionized Lufthansa airport employees to strike at Dresden Airport and Leipzig Halle Airport, Germany, Oct. 2. Flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized Lufthansa (LH) employees of Airport Services Dresden (ASD) and Airport Services Leipzig (ASL) plan to strike at Dresden Airport (DRC) and Leipzig Halle Airport (LEJ) 00:01-23:59 Oct. 2. The Verdi union is organizing the strike to demand increased wages for ASD and ASL Lufthansa staff and to protest the planned closure of the ASD and ASL Lufthansa subsidiaries. Flight disruptions, including cancellations, are likely for all Lufthansa Group flights. These include Lufthansa, Eurowings (EW), Discover Airlines (4Y), SWISS (LX), Edelweiss Air (WK), Austrian Airlines (OS), Brussels Airlines (SN), and Lufthansa Cargo (GEC).

The strike will likely disrupt airport operations and flight schedules at LEJ and DRC. Long queues are likely for passenger processing procedures, particularly check-in and ticketing services operated by Lufthansa ASL and ASD staff. The Lufthansa Group has stated that passengers will be rebooked free of charge if flights are impacted by the strike action. Lingering disruptions are likely following the conclusion of the strike as the airport deals with passenger backlogs and airlines reposition aircraft and crew.

Confirm flights if booked to fly on a Lufthansa group airline via LEJ and DRC on Oct. 2. Contact Lufthansa directly if flights are impacted. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive early at the airports to allow additional time for processing. Consider alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel.
