Germany: US president cancels visit to Berlin Oct. 10-13 /update 1
Germany will no longer host US Presidential visit to Berlin Oct. 10-13; security measures reduced, protests remain possible.
US President Joe Biden has canceled a planned visit to Berlin Oct. 10 and to the Ramstein Air Base Oct. 12. The planned exceptional security measures throughout Berlin will likely be reduced.
Peace activists may continue with a planned protest in front of the US Embassy at the Brandenburg Gate from 18:00 Oct. 10. A separate group of activists may march from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate Oct. 11; however, further details remain unclear.
A heightened security presence is possible around any gatherings that materialize. Related measures such as road closures and movement restrictions may prompt localized transport and business and disruptions in surrounding areas.
Avoid protest sites as a precaution and to minimize travel delays. Allow additional time for journeys. Heed all official directives.
