Warning

Authorities are disposing of a WWII bomb near Rudolf-Diesel-Strasse in Cologne as of late afternoon Oct. 1. The ordnance was discovered earlier in the day during construction work. Authorities have established a 300-meter (328-yard) evacuation zone around the operation site. Southbound travel on the A59 highway is suspended between the junction with the A3 and A4 highways and the junction with Kennedystrasse, while the A559 highway is closed in both directions between its junctions with A4 and A5. Authorities have evacuated the operation area.

Significant disruptions for travel between Cologne and Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) are likely throughout the operation and will likely linger for several hours after authorities give the all-clear. Heightened security is likely in the operation area.

Reconfirm planned travel between Cologne and CGN, and consider taking alternate routes to reduce travel delays. Allow additional time for travel near the operation site and via affected roadways. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
