Authorities to hold funeral proceedings for IRGC general Abbas Nilforushan in multiple cities in Iran Oct. 15-17. Increased security likely.
Iranian authorities will hold funeral proceedings and other commemorative events for Abbas Nilforoushan, a top commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in multiple cities Oct. 15-17. Nilforoushan was killed in an Israeli airstrike along with Lebanese Hizballah (LH) leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, Lebanon, Sept. 27. Officials have announced gatherings at the following locations:
Tehran: At Imam Hossein Square the morning of Oct. 15
Qom: At Hazrat Fatima Masumeh Holy Shrine the evening of Oct. 15
Mashhad: At Imam Reza Holy Shrine the morning of Oct. 16
Isfahan: At Emamzadeh Shahmirhamzeh the evening of Oct. 16 and burial at Golestan Cemetery the afternoon of Oct. 17
Thousands of people will likely attend the events, leading to road closures. Security personnel will likely increase security around affected areas. Associated transport and business disruptions are probable. Security personnel may temporarily close roads to prioritize official motorcade movements.
