Labor unions and pensioners' groups plan to protest nationwide Oct. 29-31. Campaigners, including the SPI CGIL labor union, demand increased pension incomes. Demonstrations in major urban centers will include:

Oct. 29

• Palermo: 10:00, at the Prefecture

• Cagliari: 10:00, Piazza Garibaldi

• Naples: 09:30, Piazza del Gesu

Oct. 30

• Milan: 09:30, Piazza San Babila

• Bologna: 09:00, Piazza Roosevelt

Oct. 31

• Turin: 10:00, Piazza del Palazzo Regionale

• Florence: 09:30, Mandela Forum.

Further events will take place at central squares and public spaces across Italy. Several hundred to a few thousand people may attend the larger events.

Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the demonstrations. Localized transport and road travel disruptions are probable near the protest sites. The events will likely pass off peacefully.
