Authorities plan to dispose of unexploded WWII ordnance in Gorizia and Nova Gorica, on Italian-Slovenian border, Oct. 20.

Informational

Authorities plan to dispose of unexploded WWII ordnance in Gorizia/Nova Gorica on the border between Italy and Slovenia, from 08:00 Oct. 20. Authorities will establish a 600 meters (660 yards) safety cordon and plan the evacuation of up to 5,000 residents. Officials predict that the operation will take around three hours. The British bomb, weighing 104 kg (230 lbs), is the sixth device found in recent weeks during construction work.

The evacuation order, heightened security, and road closures will likely cause localized transport disruptions during the bomb disposal operation. Lingering disruptions are likely through Oct. 20.

Avoid the operation area. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
