Italy: Unionized public transport workers to strike nationwide and protest in Rome, Nov. 8

Unionized public transport workers to protest in Rome and hold 24-hour strike across Italy, Nov. 8. Transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized local public transport workers plan to protest in Rome and stage a 24-hour nationwide strike on Nov. 8. The workers' strike, affiliated with the Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Faisa Cisal and Ugl Fna unions, is to protest the nonrenewal of employment contracts. Workers will protest in front of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in Rome on the morning of Nov. 8. The exact time of the demonstration has not yet been disclosed. Trains will operate as usual during the strike. There will be no guaranteed hours of service.

Unless averted, the strike will disrupt local bus, tram, and metro services across Italy. The strike may prompt increased traffic congestion and demand for alternative public transportation. Lingering disruptions may occur after the strike ends. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that take shape.

Reconfirm the availability of public transportation across Italy during the labor action. Make alternate travel arrangements if necessary. Allow additional time to reach destinations to account for possible congestion. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
