Informational

Authorities will likely resume flight operations at Miyazaki Airport (KMI) in Miyazaki early Oct. 3. Emerging reports indicate a large bomb from WWII detonated, causing a runway to collapse on the morning of Oct. 2. The incident did not cause any casualties, and no aircraft were nearby the affected area at the time of the blast. Officials previously canceled more than 80 flights as a precaution. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. While officials have asserted that flight services will resume early Oct. 3, further delays are possible.

Lingering disruptions are possible at KMI even after normal flight operations resume as carriers work to clear backlogs.

Confirm flights at KMI through at least the morning of Oct. 3. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
