Activist groups to march in Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 2, to mark anniversary of Tlatelolco Massacre of 1968.

Informational

Several activist groups plan to stage marches in both downtown Mexico City and Guadalajara on Oct. 2 to commemorate the Tlatelolco Massacre of 1968, when Mexican soldiers opened fire on student protesters in the nation's capital, killing as many as 300 people. In Mexico City, participants will gather at Plaza de Tres Culturas starting at 16:00 before marching to the Zocalo (Plaza de la Constitucion). In Guadalajara, demonstrators will assemble at the Rector of the University of Guadalajara at 16:00, subsequently marching to the Lunar Planetarium.

As a precaution, authorities will likely maintain an increased police presence along the march routes in both cities. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely for the duration of the events.

Avoid the march routes as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted areas. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
