Mexico: Civic activists to protest near Ministry of Interior in Mexico City from 10:00 Oct. 22

Civic activists plan gathering near Ministry of Interior in Mexico City, Mexico, from 10:00 Oct. 22.

Informational

Around 1,000 members of the "New Nation" (Nuevo Pais) organization aim to protest at the Ministry of Interior in downtown Mexico City from 10:00 Oct. 22. The purpose of the action is to demand justice for the killing of a priest that occurred in Chiapas on Oct. 20.

The demonstration will likely cause localized transport and business disruptions near the affected area. Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence nearby as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators.

Avoid the action as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near the march route. Seek alternate routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Do not attempt to cross any roadblocks set up by protesters; wait for the police to dismantle them before proceeding. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
