Mexico: Teachers to protest in Mexico City, Oct. 30
Teachers to march from the Angel of Independence to the Zocalo in Mexico City, Mexico, from 10:00 Oct. 30.
Teachers affiliated with the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) plan to demonstrate in Mexico City, Oct. 30. The march, which will coincide with a strike, will depart the Angel of Independence (Angel de la Independencia) monument at 10:00 and end at the Zocalo (Plaza de la Constitucion). A sit-in will then be held coinciding with a meeting between the CNTE and government officials. Teachers are demanding education policy reforms, standardisation of benefits and adequate pensions. Hundreds of people are likely to attend.
Authorities will likely monitor the march as a precaution and could disperse overly unruly crowds. Isolated clashes between activists and police cannot be ruled out, and associated localized transport disruptions are likely.
Avoid the protest march as a standard precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for potential localized transport disruptions. Heed all official directives.
