Mexico: Unionized teachers to strike nationwide and march in Mexico City on Oct. 30
Unionized teachers to hold a 24-hour strike across Mexico and hold associated protest march in Mexico City on Oct. 30.
Unionized teachers, affiliated with the National Coordinator of Education Workers (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educacion, CNTE), plan to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike on Oct. 30. CNTE members will also have an associated protest march in Mexico City. Participants will gather at the Angel de la Independencia starting at 10:00 and proceed to the city's Zocalo. Additionally, CNTE leaders will meet with President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace, where they will present several demands, including repealing the education reform of 2019 and increasing salaries for teachers.
Thousands will likely participate in the march, which will likely prompt heightened security measures and transport disruptions in downtown Mexico City. Protests in other cities are possible.
As a precaution, avoid all protests. If operating in Mexico City on Oct. 30, plan for delays and alternative routes.
