Nigeria: Ongoing indefinite strike at universities nationwide as of Oct. 29
Education unions striking indefinitely across Nigeria as of Oct. 29. Related protests possible.
Personnel affiliated with the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Allied Institutions (NASU) are striking indefinitely nationwide as of Oct. 29. The work stoppage began on Oct. 28 over salary arrears. Union representatives announced that the strike would continue until the government meets their demands.
Related protests are possible near federal universities and government buildings, such as the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja. Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely near any protests that materialize. Should students support the educational staff, the scale of the demonstrations and associated risk of clashes with security forces will likely increase.
Avoid all protests and anticipate localized transport disruptions near possible demonstration sites. Leave the area immediately at the first sign of any security disturbance. Abide by all official directives.
