Warning

Unionized construction workers affiliated with the Civil Construction Workers' Federation (Federacion de Trabajadores de Construccion Civil, FTCCP) are engaging in protest activity in Lima on Oct. 24 to demand that governmental authorities urgently take action to combat crime, including contract killings and extortion. Participating construction workers were slated to gather at 11:00 at the following four locations and then march toward the intersection of Avenida de la Peruanidad and Avenida General Salaverry (i.e., Jorge Chavez Roundabout) in the Jesus Maria District from the times specified below:

  • Tomas Valle Roundabout, marching to Jorge Chavez Roundabout from 12:30

  • El Porvenir Park, marching to Jorge Chavez Roundabout from 13:00

  • Manco Capac Square, marching to Jorge Chavez Roundabout from 13:15

  • Paseo de los Heroes Navales, marching to Jorge Chavez Roundabout from 14:30

Union leaders have asserted that around 30,000 workers will participate in the protest activity. Heightened security and significant transport disruptions will likely affect several areas of Lima near the march routes. Business disruptions and clashes cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest activity as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent affected areas and any disruptions. Prepare for transport delays and allow extra time for travel in Lima on Oct. 24. Do not attempt to cross a roadblock if you encounter one; take an alternative route or wait for police personnel to clear it. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
