Political activists and counter-protesters plan to demonstrate in Guimaraes, Oct. 5. The right-wing Group 1143 plans to demonstrate under the campaign "Reconquer Portugal" and to demand an end to uncontrolled immigration. The group will meet at the Toural and then march to the Castelo. The timings for the event are not immediately clear.
Multiple civil rights groups are planning a counter-protest from 16:00 at Avenida Dom Afonso Henriques. It is not known how many will attend each event, however several dozen to low hundreds may take part.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Increased tensions and low-level confrontations are possible between rival protestors.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Plan for extra travel time near the affected areas. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
