Portugal: Unionized public sector workers to demonstrate in Lisbon, Oct. 25

Unionized public sector workers to protest in central Lisbon, Portugal, from 15:00 Oct. 25. Heightened security, disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized public sector workers plan to protest in central Lisbon from 15:00 Oct. 25. Leaders of the Common Front of Public Administration Unions (CGPT-IN) will demand salary and pension improvements for its members and increased investment in public services. Participants from across Portugal will gather at Praca do Marques de Pombal, and then march to the Assembly of the Republic. It is possible that several thousand will take part.

Migrant rights campaigners will also hold a separate demonstration at the Assembly of the Republic through the afternoon of Oct. 25. The two events will likely cause significant congestion.

Heightened security and road closures will likely cause localized transport disruptions near the march route. The event will likely pass off peacefully.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
