Romania: Miners and energy workers to protest in Bucharest, Oct. 17

Unionized miners affiliated with the National Mine Energy Federation (FNME) plan to protest at Victory Square in Bucharest from 11:00-13:00 on Oct. 17. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce changes to pension laws. Approximately 1,000 participants are likely to attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Lingering disruptions are possible after the protest concludes. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
