Informational

Activists associated with the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) plan to protest in central Ankara from late Oct. 29 through the morning of Oct. 30. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the abolition of interviews as a part of the hiring process for public teachers and to demand the resignation of the Minister of National Education. Participants will gather at the Ministry of National Education on Ataturk Boulevard at 22:00 Oct. 29 to conduct an overnight sit-in, after which participants will march to the Ankara Courthouse on Ataturk Boulevard from 10:00 Oct. 30. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend; however, several CHP lawmakers will likely be in attendance.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the Ministry of National Education from late Oct. 29 through the morning of Oct. 30 and along the march route on the morning of Oct. 30. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
