Unionized workers plan to demonstrate in Ankara and Istanbul on Oct. 20. Labor union leaders will demand improved wages and workers' rights. The principal events are:
Ankara: Members of the Confederation of Turkish Trades Unions (TURK-IS) will gather in Tandogan Square from 11:00
Istanbul: Members of the Workers' Union will gather in Kartal Squrae from 12:00.
It is possible that several thousand may attend each event. Further labor union rallies are possible nationwide.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the rally site. The demonstration is likely to pass off peacefully.
Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations in the vicinity of the rallies through Oct. 20. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
