Authorities are responding to a hydrogen sulfide leak at the Shell Pemex plant in Deer Park, Texas, in the Houston area, as of the evening of Oct. 10. At least one person has been killed and an unknown number injured. The cause of the incident is not immediately clear. A shelter-in-place has been issued in Deer Park in response. Authorities have stated that the incident is not currently a threat to the public; however, they are urging those nearby to remain indoors with their windows closed.

The nearby area will almost certainly experience diminished air quality over the coming hours.
