Albania: Activists to demonstrate across Tirana Nov. 26
Opposition activists to stage blockade protests across central Tirana, Albania, from 17:00 Nov. 26; transport disruptions likely.
Political activists affiliated with the Democratic Party of Albania (PD) plan to stage blockade protests in at least five locations across central Tirana from 17:00 on Nov. 26. The demonstrations are part of a continuing opposition campaign denouncing the ruling government. Based on previous PD-led events, at least several hundred people will likely attend the protests. Related protests in recent months have featured several incidents of individuals throwing Molotov cocktails and clashing with police. Blockades are planned at the following locations:
Pallati me Shigjeta
Rruga e Elbasanit bridge over Lana River
Sheshi Uillson
Tirana City Hall on Sheshi Skenderbej
Zogu i Zi Roundabout
Authorities will likely deploy an increased security presence to the protest sites to monitor the demonstrations. Transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinities of all protest areas. Additional, unplanned blockades may materialize. Clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement officers are possible.
Avoid the protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Tirana in the late afternoon and evening of Nov. 26, and consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the vicinities of the blockades and any related disruptions. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
