Argentina: Unionized air traffic controllers plan series of strikes at airports nationwide Nov. 16-22
Unionized air traffic controllers to conduct several strikes at airprots across Argentina Nov. 16-22. Flight disruptions likely.
Unionized air traffic controllers affiliated with the Association of Technicians and Employees of Air Navigation Protection and Security (ATEPSA) plan to conduct a series of strikes at Argentinian airports Nov. 16-22. The purpose of the strike action is to demand increased wages. The strikes will predominantly impact departures. Emergency flights, including humanitarian, medical, and search-and-rescue flights, will be exempt from the strike action.
Several separate strikes will occur over the given time frame, affecting different flights:
Nov. 16: International flights 20:00-23:00
Nov. 18: Private, recreational, and non-scheduled flights 15:00-18:00
Nov. 20: All flights 07:00-09:00
Nov. 22: All flights 18:00-20:00
Unless averted, flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are likely during the designated strike periods. Lingering disruptions are probable in the hours following the strikes as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs. Demonstrations are possible near airports, public squares, and government buildings in major cities during the strike period. Heightened security, as well as localized transport and business disruptions, are likely near protest sites.
Reconfirm all flight reservations if traveling via Argentina through Nov. 16-22. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider alternative transport arrangements. Allow extra time for airport passenger processing. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution.
