Iceland: Unionized medical personnel to strike nationwide Nov. 25-28

Unionized healthcare professional organize strike across Iceland Nov. 25-28. Medical services disruptions likely.

Informational

Unionized healthcare professionals plan to strike nationwide Nov. 25-28 and hold further weekly strikes until Dec. 20. The purpose of the industrial action is to demand salary increase and improved working conditions. Negotiations are ongoing, and the strike could be averted with little notice. At least 70 percent of Iceland's medical professionals are expected to participate, affecting scheduled appointments and diagnostic services. However, officials have asserted that emergency services will not be disrupted.

Unless averted, the labor action will almost certainly cause significant disruptions to medical services. Union officials have not yet announced any demonstration plans. Still, associated rallies or picket protests are possible, especially in public squares and near government buildings.

Reconfirm all medical appointments through Nov. 28 and plan accordingly for medical service disruptions. Avoid any protest that materializes and heed all instructions from local authorities.
