India: Authorities likely to maintain tight security in parts of Vikarabad District, Telangana State, through at least late November

Tight security likely in parts of Vikarabad District, India, through at least late November following recent tensions. Exercise caution.

Warning

Authorities will likely maintain an enhanced security posture in parts of Vikarabad District through at least late November in response to heightened local tensions following a recent attack on government officials. The incident occurred during a farmers' protest against land acquisition for a pharmaceutical firm. The attack, which purportedly occurred in Lagacherla village, Dudyala, on Nov. 11, injured multiple officials and triggered a political dispute between the Indian National Congress (INC)-led state government and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) party.

Police initially detained 57 people, with 16 individuals later charged in connection with the incident. The government also reportedly suspended internet services in Dudyala until Nov. 13 and deployed additional security forces to the area. Renewed tensions and rallies are likely in the coming days. Potential gathering sites include government buildings, public squares, and thoroughfares. Participation will probably vary by location.

Depending on operational needs, the government could implement further enhanced restrictions, including recurring internet suspensions. If significant violence occurs, authorities may also expand such restrictions to additional regions, including Hyderabad. Clashes between various communities or activists and police are possible in the short term. Isolated security incidents, including arson and targeted attacks, cannot be ruled out. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Exercise increased caution if operating in or near Vikarabad District into at least late November. As a precaution, avoid all demonstrations. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for business and transport disruptions. Maintain contact with your diplomatic mission. Heed all instructions issued by local authorities, including curfew measures.
