India: Authorities to implement increased security in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Telangana State, through Nov. 28

Tight security, public gathering bans in effect in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, India, through Nov. 28. Localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Officials plan to increase security within the city limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad through Nov. 28, citing a potential threat to law and order. Authorities have not disclosed further details but confirmed that police will enforce Section 163 (formerly Section 144) of the Indian Civil Security Code during this period.

Under Section 163, public gatherings, including rallies, will be prohibited in the affected areas, particularly near government buildings such as the Secretariat. However, peaceful assemblies will be allowed at Indira Park Dharna Chowk. The order also prohibits the display of photographs, placards, flags, or the electronic dissemination of messages that could disrupt public order. Security personnel will likely deploy to parts of Hyderabad as a precaution.

Depending on the severity of the perceived threat, authorities could order the use of additional measures, such as checkpoints and restrictions on media and telecommunications. Security measures may prompt localized transport or business disruptions. Clashes are possible if activist groups attempt to demonstrate in defiance of the Section 163 declaration.

Exercise a high degree of caution if operating in the affected areas through late November. Keep away from locations where security personnel appear to be deploying. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for possible localized business disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
