India: Bus strike to occur in Delhi on Nov. 13

Unionized bus drivers under the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Transport Department plan to strike across Delhi on Nov. 13 to demand improved wages, amongst other factors. The work stoppage will likely reduce the availability of nearly 7,400 buses that transport around 4.1 million people daily and increase demand for alternative transport, such as private taxis. Unionized drivers may threaten to escalate the protest campaign if unmet demands remain. The strike may be canceled if officials agree to meet the union's demands.

Additionally, union leaders have called for a protest outside the DTC headquarters in the IP Estate area starting 10:00. Participants will likely be in the thousands. Additional related demonstrations may occur on Nov. 13. Potential gathering sites include bus stations, prominent government buildings, traffic intersections, and public squares.

Authorities will likely monitor any potential gatherings and may disperse overly disruptive crowds. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
