India: Further sporadic bomb threats likely nationwide through at least early December /update 3
Further sporadic bomb threats, associated disruptions likely in India through at least early December. Exercise increased caution.
Further bomb threats and associated disruptions are likely to occur sporadically across India through at least early December. In recent days, several high-profile locations have received bomb threats across the country, though most are suspected to be hoaxes. One such threat was made to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in south Mumbai, allegedly from a Pakistan-based militant group. The incident prompted increased security measures at the RBI building.
In a separate incident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai received a bomb threat. The caller claimed there were explosives on a flight bound for Azerbaijan. The bomb threats are part of a broader pattern, with over 400 similar calls made in recent weeks, although the frequency of such incidents has reportedly decreased. Multiple bomb threats were also made to schools in Mumbai and New Delhi, as well as to hotels in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh State. These threats have repeatedly led to temporary disruptions and prompted investigations by local police.
Further bomb threats will likely prompt officials to implement similar security measures and launch search operations. Localized ground transport and business disruptions may affect areas subject to cordons and other similar restrictions. Sporadic flight disruptions are also likely to continue. Isolated security incidents cannot be ruled out.
Reconfirm the status of flights before departure. Do not check out of accommodations without confirming onward travel. Plan for localized business and travel disruptions, particularly if operating near regularly impacted sites. Depart an area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed all official directives. Maintain contact with your diplomatic mission.
