Unionized air traffic controllers to strike at Rome and other airports across Italy, 13:00-17:00 Nov. 12. Flight disruptions likely.
Unionized air traffic controllers plan to strike at multiple airports across Italy, 13:00-17:00 Nov. 12. Staff employed by ENAV, the national ATC operating organization, will take part in the industrial action at the following airports: Rome Fiumicino (FCO), Bologna Marconi (BLQ), Lampedusa (LMP), Naples International (NAP), Pescara (PSR), and Perugia (PEG). The cumulative effect of the strikes will likely impact air travel nationwide.
Unless averted, the strike will prompt temporary air travel disruptions across Italy Nov. 12. The action will also likely cause passenger processing and airport operation disruptions. Flights are guaranteed by national law from 18:00-21:00, however delays are possible in the hours following the work stoppage. Striking workers may form pickets at airport entrances; violence is unlikely.
Contact flight operating companies for service updates. Allow extra time for airport passenger processing.
