Italy: Unionized teaching staff to strike nationwide, Nov. 15
Unionized educational workers plan to strike nationwide in Italy, Nov. 15. Business disruptions possible.
Unionized teaching staff led by the FLC CGIL, Student Union, and High School Students Network unions plan to strike nationwide on Nov. 15. The action is to demand contract improvements. The strike follows a previous action that occurred on Oct. 31.
Demonstrations and pickets are possible across Italy. Possible protest locations include schools, government education offices, and public squares. Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that materialize. Increased employee absenteeism is likely in the event that workers cannot arrange care for children who attend schools impacted by striking educators.
Plan accordingly for increased absenteeism among employees who are parents or guardians of school-aged children on Nov. 15; consider a liberal leave or telecommuting policy, where possible. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
