Farmers stage protest, blocking Arco Norte highway near Calpulalpan, Tlaxcala State, Mexico, Nov. 27; lingering traffic disruptions likely.
Farmers have launched a protest blockade at Kilometer 182 on the Arco Norte highway (Federal Highway M40D) near Calpulalpan, Tlaxcala State, Nov. 27. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand compensation for land used to construct the route. The protest has reportedly blocked traffic in both directions on the highway. Authorities have advised motorists to take alternative routes, cautioning that the last exit for traffic heading toward Texmelucan is at the Pachuca tollbooth, and the last exit for traffic heading toward Atlacomulco is at the Sanctorum tollbooth.
Authorities will likely deploy to the protest site to monitor the demonstration. Transport disruptions will almost certainly continue to affect the Arco Norte highway until the demonstrators disperse. Clashes between protesters and police are possible, especially if law enforcement personnel attempt to forcibly disperse the demonstrators.
Avoid the protest blockade as a precaution. Allow extra time for travel if operating in the Calpulalpan area, and consider taking alternative routes to circumvent related disruptions on the Arco Norte highway. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
