Mexico: Labor unions to protest in central Mexico City, Nov. 12
Unionized workers to demonstrate across Mexico City, Mexico, Nov. 12. Heightened security, transport, and business disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with various organizations plan to stage demonstrations throughout Mexico City on Nov. 12. One of the largest and most disruptive demonstrations will likely be held by the Committee of Mexico City Workers (Coordinadora de Trabajajores y Trabajadoras de la Ciudad de Mexico), where 1,000 members will march at 17:00 from Monumento a la Revolucion to the City Congress and the Zocalo. Additionally, 2,500 members of the Mexican Union of Electricians (Sindicato Mexicano de Electrisistas, SME) will stage a demonstration from 10:00 at the Chamber of Deputies. Other protests could also take place in the Mexican capital with little to no advance notice.
Transport and business disruptions are highly likely in areas subject to protest activity. Authorities will likely deploy a heightened security presence to demonstration sites.
