Mexico: Protesters block and march along Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman in Acapulco, Guerrero State, Nov. 1
Protesters block, stage march along Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman in Acapulco, Guerrero State, Mexico, Nov. 1; increased security reported.
Activists have blocked Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman in Acapulco, Guerrero State, and launched a march along the route on Nov. 1. The purpose of the protest activity is to demand federal financial support for tourism-sector workers due to damage and an alleged decrease in tourism caused by Hurricane John, which hit the region in late September. Some 5,000 protest participants are marching toward the Naval Base. The protest blockade and march have reportedly caused traffic disruptions in the area. Authorities have deployed to the march route.
Officials will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the vicinity of the march until the protesters disperse. The demonstration will probably continue to cause localized transport disruptions; delays may affect vehicular traffic heading to and from Acapulco International Airport (ACA). Business disruptions are also likely in affected areas. Low-level confrontations between protesters and police officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. Allow extra time to reach destinations, including ACA, until the protest has ended and demonstration participants have dispersed. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the march and any disruptions. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
