Protests and clashes possible in Amsterdam, Netherlands, through mid-November. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Protests remain possible in Amsterdam through mid-November, following the end of the temporary demonstration ban on Nov. 14. Police will reportedly continue to carry out preventive searches until at least Nov. 18. Unauthorized protests and incidents of arson occurred in the Amsterdam Nieuw-West area on the evening of Nov. 11; on the evening of Nov. 13, another unauthorized demonstration tool place at Dam Square, where the police reportedly carried out 281 arrests. Further violent unrest may occur in the coming days. Organized demonstrations might materialize with little notice in central Amsterdam. Authorities could decide to issue new demonstration bans in the coming days.
Increased security is likely throughout Amsterdam, particularly in central squares, near government buildings, and in areas previously impacted by unrest. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are probable. Further violence and arrests remain possible. Additional incidents of vandalism cannot be ruled out.
Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Avoid any demonstrations that may materialize. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
Authorities are maintaining emergency measures and increased security throughout Amsterdam following clashes that took place during the night of Nov. 7-8 between pro-Palestinian activists and fans of the Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team in several parts of the city, including near the Johan Cruijff Arena and Dam Square. On Nov. 10, a demonstration by hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists in Dam Square ended with the arrests of around 50 persons.
Despite the withdrawal of the ban on demonstrations and face coverings on Nov. 14, the police maintain expanded search powers. The directives are in force both within Amsterdam itself and the suburb of Amstelveen on the city's south side.
