Multiple groups of activists plan to protest in central areas of Istanbul Nov. 2. Student activist plan to protest at the Sureyya Opera House on General Asim Gunduz Caddesi in Kadikoy, from 16:00. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the alleged negligence that led to the death of a university student in an accident at a state-run university in 2023. The event is planned to occur on the anniversary of the incident. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend.
Unrelated to this, supporters of the Besiktas soccer club plan to hold a protest march in Besiktas from 17:00. Participants will gather at 35 Besiktas Caddes to Tupras Stadium. Large crowds may attend the procession.
A third unrelated demonstration is to take place 15:00-17:00 on Kadikoy Pier Square. Participants are to denounce the suspension of Acik Radio station's license.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest areas. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the areas at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
