Turkiye: Activists to demonstrate in Istanbul's Esenyurt municipality on Nov. 16

Activists to protest at Esenyurt Municipality Building in Istanbul, Turkiye, from 16:00 Nov. 16. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Activists plan to protest at the Esenyurt Municipality Building on Dogan Arasli Boulevard in Istanbul's Esenyurt township starting at 16:00 Nov. 16. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce the removal from local leaders in Esenyurt, Batman, and several other locations, as well as the Oct. 30 arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Ozer. It remains unclear how many participants may attend; however, at least one thousand participants, including high-level opposition leaders attended a related gathering immediately following Ozer's arrest.

Police will likely deploy to monitor the demonstration. Associated road closures may prompt localized travel disruptions. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, or among activists from rival camps, potentially escalating to clashes, cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
