Turkiye: Student groups to protest in central Istanbul during the afternoon of Nov. 6
Student groups to demonstrate in Istanbul's Beyazit Square, Turkiye, Nov. 6. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Several student activist groups plan to stage a protest in Istanbul's Beyazit Square starting at 15:00 Nov. 6. The purpose of the event is to condemn the policies of the Higher Education Council. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw.
Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security near the demonstration as a precaution; officers could resort to the use of tear gas or water cannon to disperse protesters, should the gathering become overly disruptive. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible.
Avoid the announced demonstration as a standard security precaution. Allow extra time to reach destinations in the vicinity of Beyazit Square during the afternoon of Nov. 6. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
