Civic society groups plan demonstrations in Glasgow and Perth, UK, Nov. 30. Inceased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Civil society organizations, including the Scottish Trades Union Congress and Stand Up to Racism, plan to demonstrate in Glasgow and Perth on Nov. 30. The protest serves the dual purpose of denouncing racism and a conference held by the Reform UK party. Participants will first march in Glasgow from Adelaide Place around the city center and then to Glasgow Queen Street Station 10:30-14:45. Participants will then travel by train to Perth, where they will protest in Perth city center from 16:30. While organizers did not specify exactly where this second gathering will be held, it will likely occur near the Royal George Hotel on Tay Street, the site of the Reform UK conference. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend the gatherings.

Law enforcement officers will likely deploy in central Glasgow and Perth to facilitate the gatherings. Marching demonstrators or road closures enforced by authorities will likely disrupt travel in central Glasgow and Perth. The presence of large numbers of protests may obstruct movement in Glasgow Queen Street Station and Perth Railway Station in the mid-afternoon. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, frustrated motorists, or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Glasgow between the morning and mid-afternoon, as well as in central Perth from the mid-afternoon onwards. Allow additional time to reach trains in Glasgow Queen Street and Perth Railway stations in the mid-afternoon. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
