US: Authorities continue to contain wildfire in Ventura County, Calif., as of late Nov. 6
Wildfire response continues in Ventura County, Calif., US, as of late Nov. 6. Evacuation orders in place.
Crews continue working to contain the Mountain Fire burning in parts of Ventura County, California, as of late Nov. 6. The fire broke out early Nov. 6 between Balcom Canyon Road and Bradley Road in Somis. It has burned around 4,249 hectares (10,500 acres). Red flag and high wind warnings are in place, hampering firefighting efforts.
Authorities have issued evacuation orders for zones 1,2,3,4, 6, and 7 from North Lewis Road to Los Posas Country Club, North of Loop Drive in the Camarillo Heights area, as well as in unincorporated Somis west to Saticoy Country Club, east to Balcom Canyon Road, and south to Highway 118, affecting more than 10,00 people. Evacuation warnings are in effect for the surrounding areas, including Zone 8 and the neighborhoods west of Wells Road, east of Petit, north of the Santa Clara River, and south of Foothill Road. Officials have established an evacuation shelter at Padre Serra Parish in Camarillo.
The fire is threatening around 3,500 homes and other structures. Several homes are affected in Camarillo Heights, including on Richards' street. The fire hopped Highway 118 and marched into Camarillo Heights. As a result, the California Highway Patrol closed Highway 118 from Wells Road to Tierra Rejada Road. Full details on the locations of evacuation orders and road closures can be found here.
Depending on the progression of the wildfires, the status of nearby roads could change over the coming hours and days. Authorities could close additional routes within the wildfire complex and evacuate more communities depending on fire activity and the needs of response operators. Residents' return will probably disrupt traffic flows after authorities lift evacuation orders. Power outages are likely in affected areas. Low visibility from smoke and possible ashfall will likely contribute to traffic delays and congestion in the region.
Heed all evacuation orders. Seek updated information on road conditions if driving in the affected area; road closures and detours will cause increased congestion and delays. Collect essential items - including identification and any important legal and travel documents - in an easily accessible "go-bag." Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged power outages.
Individuals not under evacuation warnings should consider remaining inside well-ventilated, air-conditioned spaces to reduce exposure to smoke. Individuals with chronic respiratory illnesses may be more susceptible to the negative effects of smoke inhalation. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
