US: Public transport workers threaten to strike in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, starting Nov. 8
Unionized public transport workers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US, threaten to launch an indefinite strike on Nov. 8.
Unionized workers of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), affiliated with the Transport Workers Union Local 234, plan to launch an indefinite strike starting at 00:01 on Nov. 8 if an agreement is not reached with city transit officials. Following some recent crime incidents, workers are demanding improved wages and security. Around 5,000 workers would join the strike; authorities indicate that if it moves forward, it would halt most of the services SEPTA provides, except for the Regional Rail.
Significant transport disruptions are likely starting Nov. 8, if the strike moves forward. Private transportation may also be affected due to overcrowding. Higher-than-usual congestion in and around Philadelphia is also likely.
Confirm private transportation if operating in Philadelphia starting Nov. 8. Allow additional time to reach your destination in the city.
