Finland: Unionized Finnair employees continue nationwide strike actions Dec. 12-13 /update 1
Unionized Finnair employees continue planned strike across Finland Dec. 12-13; flight disruptions expected
Unionized Finnair (AY) pilots continue their nationwide strike on Dec. 12-13. Finnish Air Line Pilots Association (SLL) members demand higher pay and improved pension benefits. A related strike on Dec. 9 led to the cancellation of around 140 flights. As of Dec. 11, Finnair officials have announced the cancellation of approximately 150 flights for Dec. 13. Additionally, starting Dec. 12, the union will introduce a new action preventing pilots from reporting for duty when on-call. Due to this latest action and ongoing pilot overtime ban, the airline has warned that further flight disruptions are likely on Dec. 12. However, officials have not provided information on how flight operations will be impacted.
The strike will prompt flight delays and cancellations during the affected period and even after the labor action has ended as the airline works to clear passenger backlogs. Striking workers may form pickets at airports, possibly prompting delays during check-in and security clearance operations.
Reconfirm all flight reservations if traveling with Finnair through at least Dec. 13. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider arriving at the airport early to offset any check-in and security clearance delays.
