Right-wing groups plan to stage a rally in Friedrichshain, Berlin, Dec. 14; counter-protesters plan rival events. Activists will gather at Neue Bahnhof Street and march to the Lichtenberger Brucke from 13:00 Dec. 14. The march is titled "For law and order"; organizers expect up to 100 participants.
Multiple groups plan counter-protests through the afternoon of Dec. 14. Local authorities have approved around 10 local groups to stage events in the Friedrichshain district. Members of "Against fascism, queer and misogyny," "Against right-wing extremism," "For solidarity in Friedrichshain," and other groups plan counter-protest events. Several dozen to hundreds of protesters will likely take part in each event.
Authorities will probably deploy a heightened security presence around related events. Localized transport disruptions will likely affect areas subject to protest activity. Police may close local roads to traffic on short notice to facilitate the demonstrations. Low-level confrontations between rival protesters are possible.
Avoid the demonstrations as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent areas affected by protest activity and allow extra time for travel in Berlin. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
