Authorities are disposing of an unexploded World War II bomb at 118 Luxemburger Strasse in Cologne as of the evening of Dec. 17. Officials are enforcing a roughly 350-meter (383-yard) cordon within which all buildings are to be evacuated and traffic restricted. The intended duration of the operation was not immediately clear.

Heightened security will likely affect areas near the bomb site for the duration of the operation and will likely linger into at least late Dec. 17. Associated localized transport disruptions are probable.

Consider taking alternate routes to reduce travel delays if traveling through Cologne Dec. 17. Allow additional time for travel near the operation site. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
