Germany: Rival activists plan demonstrations in Berlin and Karlsruhe Dec. 7
Abortion rights and anti-abortion activists plan demonstrations in Berlin and Karlsruhe, Germany, on Dec. 7. Increased security likely.
Abortion rights activists plan to demonstrate in Alexanderplatz, Berlin, and Kronenplatz, Karlsruhe, from 13:00 Dec. 7. Campaign groups including Doctors for Choice will demand changes to the criminal code. It is possible that several hundred to thousands of protestors will attend each event. Officials in Berlin have authorized a counter-protest from 13:00 at Unter den Linden 78, where activists will hold a prayer vigil. Additional demonstrations are possible in centers nationwide.
Authorities will likely deploy heightened security to facilitate each event. Increased security, pedestrian congestion, and road closures will likely prompt localized traffic disruptions. The events will likely pass off peacefully.
Avoid the demonstration areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near a protest or on major roadways into affected cities. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
