India: Further sporadic bomb threats likely nationwide through late December /update 4
Further sporadic bomb threats likely across India through late December. Associated disruptions possible.
Further bomb threats will likely continue sporadically at urban centers across India through late December. Indian airlines, such as Air India (AI), Akasa Air (QP), IndiGo (6E), and Vistara Air (VTI), received almost 1,000 hoax bomb threats in 2024, with around 500 incidents reported in late October. Major international airports, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (BOM), Indira Gandhi (DEL), Jaipur (JAI), Kempegowda (BLR), and Kolkata (CCU), have also been targets.
Bomb threats have also affected other public locations like banks, hospitals, hotels, schools, and shopping malls. More than 40 schools in Delhi received bomb threats Dec. 9, though officials declared these as hoaxes. While all of these threats have been falses, they have caused temporary disruptions, including evacuation orders and cordons, and prompted investigations by local police.
Authorities will likely implement similar security measures and launch search operations in response to threats. Localized ground transport and business disruptions may occur in affected areas. Bomb threats could cause flight disruptions, including rerouting and delays. Enhanced screening procedures may also result in longer wait times at airports.
Reconfirm the status of flights before departure. Do not check out of accommodations without confirming onward travel. Plan for possible localized business and travel disruptions, particularly if operating near regularly impacted sites. Depart an area at the first sign of any security incident. Heed all official directives. Maintain contact with your diplomatic mission.
