Activists protesting at state governors' residences across India Dec. 18. One fatality reported in Guwahati, Assam State. Avoid protests.
Activists from the state opposition Indian National Congress (INC) are staging protests at the official residences of state governors, known as Raj Bhavan, nationwide on Dec. 18 to denounce alleged corrupt ties between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and businessman Gautam Adani. One person was killed in clashes at a protest that occurred at the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati, Assam State when police tried to disperse the crowd with tear gas after they stormed the compound.
Authorities will likely monitor the protests and may move to disperse overly disruptive crowds. Further clashes between police and activists are possible, especially if attendees attempt to breach security cordons. Localized transport disruptions are probable along roadways leading to the protest sites.
Avoid the demonstrations as a precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near the gathering sites. Heed instructions from authorities.
