Mexico: Health workers stage protests, roadblocks in Oaxaca early Dec. 17

Health workers affiliated with the Health Secretariat National Workers Union (Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Secretaria de Salud, SNTSA) are staging protests and roadblocks throughout the city of Oaxaca early Dec. 17 to demand delayed payments and improved benefits. Protesters have built roadblocks along Highway 190, and Highway 175 connecting to Veracruz; they have also blocked access to several malls in the city, including Plaza del Valle, and Macroplaza.

Significant transport and business disruptions are likely in and around Oaxaca through at least the late afternoon of Dec. 17. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
