Netherlands: Climate activists associated with the Extinction Rebellion group protesting in The Hague Dec. 4
Extinction Rebellion activists conducting roadblock protest on A12 in The Hague, Netherlands, Dec. 4; disruptions reported.
Activists affiliated with the environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion (XR) are conducting a previously unannounced protest blockade on the A12 motorway in The Hague as of mid-afternoon Dec. 4. Approximately 150 demonstrators gathered on the southeast-bound lanes of the highway just southeast of the Malietoren office building. Police were on the scene and had reportedly begun arresting protest participants.
Transport disruptions are likely on the A12 for the duration of the protest. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers are possible.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
