Authorities in New Caledonia have announced a 01:00-06:00 curfew in Noumea and surrounding areas from Jan. 1-2 due to ongoing civil unrest risks. The measure will apply to Noumea, Mont-Dore, Dumbea, and Paita. As of Dec. 27, several restrictions remain in effect until at least Jan. 5, including bans on transporting weapons, fireworks, alcohol sales, and unauthorized public gatherings; however, previous restrictions on fuel and flammable product sales remain lifted. The curfew may be expanded to other regions territorywide.
Authorities may implement additional security measures, such as checkpoints and increased patrols on Jan. 1-2, especially during the curfew hours. Associated protests and clashes are possible.
Remain indoors during curfew hours. Confirm road status and any available protest information before travel to and within Noumea. Avoid any protest that materializes. Plan for business disruptions and ensure access to essential items. Heed all security, traffic, and travel advisories.
